Frequently Asked Questions
Why astronauts?
Astronauts became a way for me to explore thoughts, emotions, and everyday situations without tying them to a specific person. Space creates distance, and sometimes distance helps us see things more clearly.
Are all drawings handmade?
Yes. Every illustration in this book was drawn entirely by hand using pencil, ink, and occasionally acrylic paint.
Were the drawings planned as a book from the beginning?
No. Most of the illustrations were created individually over time. At some point I realized they shared a common atmosphere and belonged together, which eventually led to Headspace.
How long does a drawing take?
It depends on the illustration. Some pieces are finished within a few hours, while others evolve over several days. Larger acrylic paintings took considerably longer.
Do you sketch before using ink?
Always. I start with a pencil sketch before applying ink. Even then, I usually leave room for spontaneous ideas that emerge while drawing.
Do you ever make mistakes?
Constantly. Smudges, unexpected ink splashes, and imperfect lines are part of the process. Rather than trying to eliminate them, I’ve learned to embrace them.
Why work traditionally instead of digitally?
I enjoy the unpredictability of traditional materials. Ink has a personality of its own, and every sheet of paper records the small imperfections that make an original feel alive.
Which drawing is your favorite?
That changes all the time. Usually it’s the one I’m currently working on—or the next idea that hasn’t been drawn yet.
Will there be another book?
I hope so. There are already many ideas waiting in sketchbooks. Whether they become another book depends on time, inspiration, and whether enough people enjoy Headspace.
Where can I see new artwork?
New drawings, original artwork, prints, and updates are regularly published on kplx.art and on my social media channels.
Can I buy the original drawings?
Some originals are available for purchase, while others remain part of my personal collection. Availability changes over time.
Can I use these images for my own projects?
Please don’t. The artwork is protected by creative commons. If you’d like to use an illustration, just get in touch, I’m always happy to discuss licensing or permissions.
Is there more bonus content?
Yes. This companion section will continue to grow with new articles, making-ofs, sketches, time-lapse videos, and additional material over time.
